How the checker works

Every Krillion prompt has an answer sheet: the list of answers the game accepts, each placed in one of six rarity tiers. After a dive the game publishes that sheet. The checker looks your answer up on it, ignoring case, accents, punctuation and a leading “the”, and tells you its tier. When nothing matches it suggests close spellings that are on the sheet.

Full sheets are on record for 505 of the 651 prompts listed here, 287,953 answers in all. New dives are added each day from the official reveal; older dates come from a public third-party copy, stored only when it matches the sheet size and answers we already hold.

Want the deep answers rather than a yes or no? The rare answer finder lists a prompt's Rare, Deep Cut and One in a Krillion answers.

What each result is worth

Every point takes you ten metres down. A perfect dive of seven 100-point answers reaches 7,000 m.

TierPointsDepthWhat it means
Plankton10100 mThe answers most players think of first.
Too Clever15150 mThe go-to “obscure” pick that turns out not to be obscure at all.
Schooler30300 mLess obvious, but still well travelled.
Rare60600 mAnswers only a small share of players reach.
Deep Cut85850 mValid answers that almost nobody gives.
One in a Krillion1001,000 mThe gem answers picked out for each prompt, each with a note from the game.

Answer checker questions

Is this the official Krillion answer checker?

No. Krillion Today is an independent site. The checker searches the answer sheet Krillion publishes after each dive, or a public third-party copy of it for older dates, and says which one it used. The game itself is the final word.

My answer isn't on the sheet. Was it wrong?

Not necessarily. The official FAQ says a fair answer can be missing when a source was missed, and the game's autocorrect also matches aliases that the published sheet doesn't list. Not being on the sheet only means it isn't one of the listed answers.

Why did a different answer get matched in the game?

Krillion's autocorrect checks every alias on long answer lists, so being a letter or two off one of them can turn your guess into something unexpected. The official FAQ's example is "sea monkey", one letter from "sea donkey", an alias of the Threebanded Sheephead.

Can I check answers for older dives?

Yes. Pick any date on record. Full sheets are held from the dates noted on this page; for earlier dates the checker searches the selection of answers shown on that day's page and says so.

Does checking an answer spoil today's dive?

Only as much as you ask. The checker shows the answer you typed and a few close spellings of it, never the rest of the sheet. For nudges without answers, use today's hints.
