Krillion Signal Lost: What the message means, and what to do

Krillion shows “signal lost. resend” when the answer you sent got no reply from the game. Your answer isn't wrong, and you can send it again. Here is what is going on and how to stop it happening.

What “signal lost. resend” means

Krillion checks every answer on its server. When you submit, your answer travels to the game, and the tier and score travel back. “Signal lost. resend” is what the game shows when that round trip doesn't complete. There are three ways it happens:

  • the request never arrives or the reply never returns, because the connection dropped;
  • nothing comes back within about five seconds, and the game gives up waiting;
  • the server answers with an error instead of a result.

In all three cases the game shows the same words. It can't tell a weak connection from a blocked request or a server having a bad moment, so the message can't either.

Checked against the game. Read from the code the official site serves to every visitor: each answer is sent to the game's server, and the game shows "signal lost. resend" when that request fails, is answered with an error, or gets no reply within about five seconds; "no echo. try again" when the server replies that the answer isn't on the list; and "midnight passed" when a tab left open is refused after the daily reset. What to do when it appears

  1. Submit again at once. The message is an invitation to resend. The prompt's 25 seconds keep running while you wait, so don't stop to investigate in the middle of a prompt.
  2. If it repeats, change the connection. Move from Wi-Fi to mobile data or the other way round. A connection that is good enough to load a page can still drop a small request.
  3. Leave filtered networks. School, office and public networks, and some VPNs, filter or slow traffic. A request they hold back looks exactly like a lost one.
  4. Pause content blockers for the game. A blocker or privacy extension that stops the request from leaving your browser produces the same message. If the game works in a private window with extensions off, one of them is the cause.
  5. If every answer fails on a good connection, wait. A server error shows the same message, and nothing on your side fixes that. Try again a little later.

What happens to the prompt you were on

An answer that got no reply hasn't been scored. The clock for the prompt doesn't stop, so each failed attempt uses up some of your 25 seconds. If an answer is still on its way when the clock reaches zero, the game waits a few seconds more for the reply; if none comes, the prompt is recorded with no score and the dive moves on.

So signal lost doesn't take points away by itself. What it costs is time, and on a slow connection that can be the whole prompt. Before the daily dive, it is worth being on the connection you trust most.

Signal lost, no echo and midnight passed

The game has three short messages that are easy to mix up. Only the first is about your connection.

Krillion messages and what each one means
MessageWhat it meansWhat to do
signal lost. resendYour answer got no usable reply from the server.Submit again; fix the connection if it repeats.
no echo. try againThe server replied: that answer isn't on the accepted list.Type a different answer before the clock runs out.
midnight passedThe tab stayed open past the daily reset, so that dive can no longer score.Reload and play the new dive.

“No echo” is the ordinary refusal: the game accepts only answers in the set it built for the prompt, and its FAQ says a fair answer is sometimes missing because a source was missed. More on that in how to play Krillion. “Midnight passed” follows the daily reset at midnight Eastern Time; see when Krillion resets where you live.

Who can fix it

Krillion Today is an independent companion site. We don't run the game and can't see or repair its servers. If the problem persists on a connection you know is good, the game's own site at krillion.io is the place to report it. In the meantime, our Krillion Unlimited practice game checks answers in your browser once a round has loaded, so a shaky connection doesn't interrupt it.

Krillion signal lost questions

What does signal lost mean in Krillion?

It means the answer you sent got no usable reply from the game's server: the request failed, the server answered with an error, or nothing came back within about five seconds. It says nothing about whether your answer is right.

Is my answer lost when Krillion says signal lost?

It hasn't been scored, but the message asks you to resend, and you can: submit again while the prompt's clock is still running. If a later attempt gets through, it counts as normal.

Does signal lost cost points?

Not by itself. It costs time: the 25 seconds for the prompt keep running while you resend. If no answer has been accepted when the clock runs out, the prompt scores nothing.

What does no echo mean in Krillion?

"No echo. try again" is a different message. The server did reply, and the answer you typed isn't on the list of accepted answers for that prompt. Try another answer while the clock runs.

Why does Krillion say midnight passed?

The tab was left open past the daily reset. A new dive went live in the meantime, so the old one can no longer be scored. Reload the page to play the new dive.

Is Krillion down?

We can't see the game's servers, so we can't say. If signal lost appears on every answer while other sites load normally on the same connection, the trouble is probably on the game's side and all you can do is try again later.
