How to Play Krillion

Krillion is a daily trivia game with a twist: being right isn't enough. You score by being right in a way few other players are.

The rules

  1. Each day there is one new set of 7 prompts, called the daily dive, the same for everyone.
  2. Every prompt asks you to name something that fits a description: a country in a region, a film by a director, an animal with a certain trait.
  3. You type one answer for each prompt.
  4. If your answer is accepted, it is scored by rarity. Answers that many players give score low; answers that few players give score high.
  5. Your results across the prompts add up to your total for the day.
  6. A new dive replaces the old one at midnight Eastern Time. See exactly when Krillion resets where you live.

Checked against the game. The official site describes the game as seven prompts a day, and its daily data lists seven. Last reviewed October 10, 2026.

The original game lives at krillion.io, and its makers decide the rules. If anything here differs from what you see in the game, trust the game.

How scoring works

Accepted answers fall into rarity tiers, from the answers everybody gives up to the gem answers picked out for each prompt. There is also a tier, Too Clever, for the answer that feels obscure but that plenty of people reach for. Our scoring and tiers guide lists every tier and what is known about its points.

What counts as a valid answer

According to the official FAQ, the game builds its answer sets by combining sources such as dictionaries, wiki pages and encyclopedias, then merging and cleaning them. Rarity is scored against a familiarity database for some prompts, and with model assistance and manual review for others.

That has two practical consequences. First, a correct answer can occasionally be missing: the FAQ says this happens when the creator couldn't find a source that fairly covers it. Second, the game's accepted list is the only one that matters for your score. No companion site, this one included, can tell you for certain what the game will accept.

Tips for finding rare answers

Skip the first three things you think of

Your first idea is everyone's first idea. Treat the obvious answers as a map of where not to go, and keep listing until you reach something you had to work for.

Beware the famous obscure answer

Every category has a well-known “deep cut”: the trivia-night favourite that players pick precisely because it sounds clever. That is the Too Clever trap. If an answer makes you feel smug, a lot of other people are feeling smug about it too.

Change the angle, not just the item

Think in sub-categories. For countries, try small island states or landlocked ones. For films, try a director's first or last work. For animals, try a specific species rather than the general name.

Use what you personally know

Your hometown, your job, the sport you follow, the language you studied: specialist knowledge is where truly rare answers come from. An answer that is ordinary to you may be rare across all players.

Be exact

Spell names in full and use the common English form. A precise answer is a safer bet than a vague or partial one.

Practice without waiting for tomorrow

The daily dive is once a day. Our Unlimited practice mode uses the same skill, naming the correct answer others miss, with original prompts written for this site and no daily limit. Its questions and scores are ours, not the official game's.
