Krillion Answer Not Accepted: Why it happens, and what to do
What the game's message tells you
| Message | What happened | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “no echo. try again” | The game's server replied, and what you typed isn't on its list for this prompt. | Try another answer, a fuller name or a more common spelling while the clock runs. |
| “signal lost. resend” | No usable reply came back from the server within about five seconds. | Send the same answer again. It hasn't been judged yet. |
| “midnight passed” | The tab stayed open past the daily reset, so the old dive can't be scored. | Reload to play the new dive. |
Checked against the game. Read from the code the official site serves to every visitor: each answer is sent to the game's server, and the game shows "signal lost. resend" when that request fails, is answered with an error, or gets no reply within about five seconds; "no echo. try again" when the server replies that the answer isn't on the list; and "midnight passed" when a tab left open is refused after the daily reset. Why a true answer can be missing
Every prompt has a fixed answer list, assembled from reference sources before the dive goes live. Your answer has to be on it. If the sources that built the list didn't include your answer, the game can't accept it, however right it is. The game's maker says this is the usual reason a fair answer is missing, and that they try to keep it rare.
The list also decides the boundaries. A prompt like “a city south of the equator with over 100,000 people” follows whatever population and boundary figures its sources used, which may not match the figure you remember.
When autocorrect matches the wrong answer
Krillion's autocorrect is generous on purpose: it forgives a slip of a letter or two, and it checks every alias of every answer. On a prompt with thousands of answers that occasionally turns your guess into a different entry. If the answer shown isn't what you meant, the one you typed probably wasn't on the list in that spelling.
Checked against the game. The official FAQ says answer sets are built by aggregating dictionaries, wiki pages, encyclopedias and other sources; that a fair answer is usually missing because a source was missed; and that autocorrect also checks aliases, so being a letter or two off an alias can match something unexpected (its example: "sea monkey" is one letter from "sea donkey", an alias of the Threebanded Sheephead). What you can do
- Keep going: a rejected answer doesn't end the prompt. You have 25 seconds per prompt.
- Try the full official name, then the most common short name. Drop or add “the”.
- Prefer standard English spellings over local or transliterated ones.
- Move sideways: if one obscure pick misses, a different one in the same family may hit.
- Afterwards, look your answer up in the Krillion answer checker to see whether it was on the sheet and which spellings were.
Checked against the game. The official how-to-play notes say "every point sinks you 10 metres. 700 is the trench" and "one dive per day. no second chances"; the results screen shows the score times ten as metres. Last reviewed October 16, 2026.
If the message was “signal lost”, the problem was the connection, not the answer: what signal lost means and how to fix it.
