How to use rare answers

Krillion rewards answers other players don't give. The obvious answer lands in Plankton for 10 points; the “clever” pick everyone reaches for lands in Too Clever for 15. Real depth starts at Rare. Browsing a past prompt's deep tiers shows the kind of answer that scores: specific names, regional varieties, technical terms and old or local examples rather than famous ones.

For a one-line pick per prompt, see every One in a Krillion answer by date. For ways to find deep answers under the clock, read our Krillion tips and strategy.

Rare answer questions

What counts as a rare answer in Krillion?

Any accepted answer in the three deepest tiers: Rare (60 points), Deep Cut (85) and One in a Krillion (100). Rare answers are ones only a small share of players reach; Deep Cuts are valid answers almost nobody gives; One in a Krillion answers are hand-picked gems.

Is the rarest answer always worth 100 points?

No. The official FAQ says the One in a Krillion answer isn't chosen on rarity alone: past a certain depth rarity is hard to tell apart, so the gem is also picked for how satisfying it is to land on. Many Deep Cuts are just as obscure.

Why do some prompts have thousands of Deep Cuts?

Answer sets are built from dictionaries, encyclopedias and other reference lists, so open prompts collect very long tails. Almost everything past the familiar answers lands in Deep Cut.

Where do these answers come from?

From the answer sheet Krillion publishes after each dive. For dates before this site stored full sheets, from a public third-party copy of the official reveal, checked against the sheet size and answers we already hold. Each list says which it is.
